Description

Cultivation. Magic. Empowering unwitting animals!

A thousand-year-old cultivator, Drew, is about to ascend to a higher existence. As he begins the process, he finds out he has pissed off one too many demigods. Though he manages to fight off the concerted effort of sect elders and patriarchs...he is slapped away from the higher realms by something.

After an instant or an eternity, he awakens on a lower realm! The air is filled with garbage energy, and his emotions of all things are allowing him to control it. For a cultivator that has spent his existence absolutely controlling his thoughts...that won’t do at all. To regain his place in the cosmos, he will need to create the energy his is familiar with once more...even if it might poison the entire world.

Then again...he could just take it easy and leave all the hard work to his "willing" apprentices.

this book really takes the whole cultivation genra and flips it on its head. The charicters are also very likeable

I liked the story that was woven

A different take on the trope of dungeons and fantasy…

I liked the story the author was conveying; it was kind of clever, but I did get annoyed by some of their choices with writing style. I will probably listen to the second book in this series to find out what happens to the characters. I hope I’m less annoyed by the authors writing style.

wonderfully wacky

If you're a fan of power cultivation stories and don't mind crude language and a completely absurd main character then you absolutely should give this book a listen.

Too much “Chi”

I like the story and the narrator doesn’t speak so fast not like others that seems in a hurry. The only I cant stand is too much mentioned of Chi that it bugs me which end up me shouting BINGO! every 5 times it mentioned.

The price was right, the story even better.

Pavi does a great job on the narration.
Andries story has a good pace and lots of fun humor to it.

Like Junk Food

The story setting is an interesting and novel one. An earthling reincarnates into a cultivation world, reaches the top only to get sent back to the beginning in a swords and magic world.

The MC's background is already interesting but the way the Swords and Magic world is structured is different than the cookie cutter worlds with its own very unique problems.

I'm not a huge fan of the MC as he acts rude, manipulative, and like a general ass. This isn't a demerit though as it makes sense considering his history and circumstances as well as the fact that we later see that his morals are good despite his less than saintly personality. (Side note: I remember seeing someone mention him using the R-word a ton before I bought the book but I only heard three instances. Not a dealbreaker for me but I still didn't like it since that was just lazy writing and could've been easily substituted with "idiot" or the like making it much less jarring to hear that word out of nowhere)

Although, none of the above is why I gave this book 4 stars and called it junk food. Yes, this story is interesting and I enjoyed it even if I didn't like all of it. The reason this is junk food is because the plot is just following a thousand year old MC's pov as he does whatever he wants towards... some goal? He even glosses over significant world events at times and only shows the aftermath(still interesting but feels lacking like hearing of a kick-ass party but not actually being there). The story seems to be focused on displaying the unique world and it's magic system(s) and how the MC games them to basically unlock creative mode. The little character development in the story can be found in the disciples but sadly their sections are sparse and short. BUT the layout of this first book suggests that some interesting stuff will happen to the world, the MC, and the disciples in the next book.

Overall, this book lacks character substance but is chalkfull of fun magic/chi spells/techniques, unique scenarios, and world building that makes up for it. A story I'd only recommend to those who are interested in world events rather than personal struggles; though there may be more of that in the next book.

Underrated

The main reason why the reviews seem to be so polarized is that the synopsis of the story doesn't really give a good enough sense of the theme of the story. I just hope the series doesn't stray too far from what the first book is about.

Also, did the MC accidentally create Yggdrasil? I can't wait to find out if my theory is correct or if they even bother to get around to properly giving a name to Tree.
