Story
Meet a genuine American folk hero cut from the homespun cloth of America's heartland: Sam Walton, who parlayed a single dime store in a hardscrabble cotton town into Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world. The undisputed merchant king of the late 20th century, Sam never lost the common touch. Here, finally, inimitable words. Genuinely modest, but always sure of his ambitions and achievements. Sam shares his thinking in a candid, straight-from-the-shoulder style. In a story rich with anecdotes and the "rules of the road" of both Main Street and Wall Street, Sam Walton chronicles the inspiration, heart, and optimism that propelled him to lasso the American Dream.

Publisher's Summary
Audie Award Finalist, Business/Educational, 2014
The definitive story of Amazon.com, one of the most successful companies in the world, and of its driven, brilliant founder, Jeff Bezos.
Amazon.com started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now.
Brad Stone enjoyed unprecedented access to current and former Amazon employees and Bezos family members, giving listeners the first in-depth, fly-on-the-wall account of life at Amazon. Compared to tech's other elite innovators - Jobs, Gates, Zuckerberg - Bezos is a private man. But he stands out for his restless pursuit of new markets, leading Amazon into risky new ventures like the Kindle and cloud computing, and transforming retail in the same way Henry Ford revolutionized manufacturing.
The Everything Store will be the revealing, definitive biography of the company that placed one of the first and largest bets on the Internet and forever changed the way we shop and read.

Principals
The story was well narrated by Pete Larkin. There were a few parts in the audio that are different than in the physical book itself. I followed along in the book as I listened to the narration.
A well written book with a lot to think about. Applying these principles Jeff worked so hard to perfect will be the next step in our own lives and hopefully have a positive impact on us and the world around us.

felt like a 13 hour amazon commercial.
This book goes out of its way to tell readers how "amazon always offers lowest prices". it's somewhat informative of the company's story but a boring one. The book is from 2013 hence it does not discuss any recent events. But from a reader's perspective it felt like looking at an old paragraph of the Amazon company.

Capitalism at it’s best and worst
Likely a mix of fact and fiction. Regardless it’s an insightful view through a murky window of the inner strategy of Bezos. If you’ve never thought about the darker side of capitalism this is an excellent book. It will also allow you to think about how the future is going to change the way that we all do business.

Mediocre coverage of an extraordinary story
After just finishing Walter Issacson's Steve Jobs, this book is simply lacking in comparison. I'm sure there's more nuances, more intricacies involved in the rise of Amazon and Bezos, but this author doesn't do it justice. Story telling is not cohesive. Paints Bezos more as a character instead of a real person.
Otherwise, still worth the read, would recommend.
