DO NOT USE AS ADVICE, ONLY FOR RELAXATIONS!!

Appreciate that it has the relaxation audios included in it. These are the most universally useful things in it and safest thing to take into practice for your own birth whether you want a completely natural birth or not. As a neontal and pediatric nurse with experience attending many low risk gone bad and high risk deliveries, I would warn you to NOT make this your only guide to childbirth. It is very biased to the 100% natural/KG hypnobirth way. Listening to this before having my first baby, if I didn't have a medical background, I would feel quite pressured to do it their way and if I couldn't or it didn't go that way (because a lot of times the end result is out of your hands and is indeed in the hands of your baby and biology), make me feel like I had failed at something that should've been natural to me. Realize that you can pick and choose what you take from this and always err on the side of caution and safety for your baby by first discussing it with your doctor or midwife. I found there is a relatively small amount of good info that is supported by medical evidence (and would be supported by your health care providers even in the hospital) however it is mixed up with a lot of info that is NOT evidence based and only ANECDOTAL. So you will need to discuss anything you hear in this book besides the relaxation techniques with your doctor before putting it into practice for yourself. If you are going to say no to certain things (for example vitamin K) you NEED to be informed and fully discuss the risks to your baby with your doctor before deciding. There is a reason why these things are standard care and it is usually based on best practices and put in place for the safety of you and your baby. ie there may be devastating risks to your baby by not performing them! It is important to understand and question your healthcare providers if you do not, but know that they are highly experienced and educated and there's a reason they chose this profession. This book actually encourages and gives you confrontational phrases! Very unnecessary, just be a reasonable human being and you will be met with a respectful response from another reasonable human. Canadian hospitals also review and adopt new policies all the time and holistic/natural care is already recognized and used as a default. Medical interventions not considered "natural" in this book are used for the safety of mom and baby when needed. This book emphasizes that KG hypnobirthing is the only way to go about things, is so very important and any deviation from it will affect your child for the rest of their life. So absurd!! It also states that no matter what you do as a parent you are right. What?! That is false and while it's nice they want to make you feel empowered, to be a good parent you must have the humility and respect to learn, get educated and take in the advice of TRAINED medical professionals/experts, not just your intuition. There are a lot of births that will not fit the ideal one this book is talking about, and they are all beautiful and the details of how it happens are ultimately not up to you no matter how many relaxations you do.

Good info - bad audio

The I formation was very good. my biggest complaint is choice of narrator. a male narrator for a book written by and for woman. Also I could not listen to the relaxation as the voice was very un-nerving and shrill. the opposite of what is required for relaxation.

The book is helpful but this audible version ...

The book its self has lots of interesting information but the audible version itself is organized in a weird an inefficient way.

The classes/exercises are merged with the information sections, so when you need to go back and do the daily training exercises they provide, your suck not only having to remember which chapter each exercise is found (no titles are provided with the chapters as well) but you also need to scroll to the precise location on the time bar to begin the exercise. It's really inefficient, considering how often you need to listen to the excercises to prepare.

Very Helpful

I purchased this when I was pregnant with my 3rd child after hearing about hypnobirthing and being intrigued. I listened to it and loved it. It brought forth really interesting facts and points and i truly believed that it helped me have an amazing birth. The nurses mentioned that they never see a woman as calm as I was when I arrived at the hospital 8 cm dilated. Definitely recommend. #audible1

It's a good book

it's a good book to start preparing for a calm and natural labour, however I will be purchasing more books, as I feel this one is just the tip of the iceberg. but its good.

Love Hypnobirthing, but Not This Book

I have read and watched many resources on Hypnobirthing and I love the concepts. As a first time mom, I planned a home birth and applied all of my learnings... My son was delivered 3 hours after my first contraction in the comfort of our home. We had midwives and they did not arrive on time, but I was able to maintain my calm environment despite not having assistance thanks to everything I had learned. I am now due with my second and I am listening to some audiobooks as a refresher. First off, I do not understand why they chose a man to narrate this book especially given the nature of the book and the female author. It is strange to hear a first person point of view discussing "her daughter or births" coming from a male narrator. Second, the book is not that well written. She has some really strange analogies and even though she encourages positivity, she can have a negative tone in some ways. The audiobook is supposed to include the meditations and relations, but it is hard to navigate in the app. The chapters are not labelled in the app and I have no idea how to search for them. I would recommend Hypnobirthing to any woman preparing for birth, but maybe try a few more resources and don't let this be your primary guide!

Decent intro to hypnobirthing

I would have liked more exercises to practice hypnobirthing. The ones included weren't easily accessible.
