Our naked eyes see only a thin sliver of reality. We are blind in comparison to the X-rays that peer through skin, the mass spectrometers that detect the dead inside the living, or the high-tech surveillance systems that see with artificial intelligence. And we are blind compared to the animals that can see in infrared, or ultraviolet, or in 360-degree vision. These animals live in the same world we do, but they see something quite different when they look around.

Much of what we hear about who gets to the top, and how, is wrong. Those who become chief executives set their sights on the C-suite at an early age. In fact, over 70 percent of the CEOs didn't have designs on the corner office until later in their careers. You must graduate from an elite college. In fact, only seven percent of CEOs in the dataset are Ivy League graduates - and eight percent didn't graduate from college at all. To become a CEO you need a flawless résumé. The reality: 45 percent of CEO candidates had at least one major career blowup.

Why do women keep themselves small and quiet? Why do they hold back professionally and personally? What fuels the uncertainty and lack of confidence so many women often feel? In this paradigm-shifting book, leading feminist thinker Bethany Webster identifies the source of women’s trauma. She calls it the Mother Wound - the systemic disenfranchisement of women by the patriarchy - and reveals how this cycle is perpetuated by wounded mothers who unconsciously pass on damaging beliefs and behaviors to their daughters.

Histoire
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

A major audiobook about the future of the world, blending intellectual and natural history and field reporting into a powerful account of the mass extinction unfolding before our eyes. Over the last half a billion years, there have been five mass extinctions, when the diversity of life on Earth suddenly and dramatically contracted. Scientists around the world are currently monitoring the sixth extinction, predicted to be the most devastating extinction event since the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.

We humans are the inheritors of a dynasty that has reigned over the planet for nearly 66 million years, through fiery cataclysm and ice ages: the mammals. Our lineage includes saber-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths, armadillos the size of a car, cave bears three times the weight of a grizzly, clever scurriers that outlasted Tyrannosaurus rex, and even other types of humans, like Neanderthals.

Histoire
The Inconvenient Indian is at once a “history” and the complete subversion of a history - in short, a critical and personal meditation that the remarkable Thomas King has conducted over the past 50 years about what it means to be “Indian” in North America. Rich with dark and light, pain and magic, this book distills the insights gleaned from that meditation, weaving the curiously circular tale of the relationship between non-Natives and Natives in the centuries since the two first encountered each other.

Description
It’s the 21st Century. Why the hell are women - 51% of the population - being treated like second class citizens?
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.
It’s the brainchild of two childless comedians, Merrill Markoe and Megan Koester. Markoe is a multi-award-winning comedy writer whose credits span television, magazines, and books. She has four Emmy Awards, one for each of her dogs. Koester has written for VICE, Jezebel and the Guardian and has one basic cable acting credit. The two writers—one a comedy veteran, the other an emerging talent—intersperse their dry wit with their own experiences of being long-suffering feminists in the modern world.

Informative, funny and infuriating
I added this book to my Audible collection a while ago, but I hesitated to start it because it is such a depressing topic. But comedy is the perfect vehicle for exploring the utter absurdity of beliefs and attitudes about women and their role in society. Thanks Merrill and Megan!

An insightful read
This book was exceptional, both in content and performances by the authors. the fact it was narrated as a audiobook is what made it even more enjoyable. The back and forth was entertaining between the authors.
on the note of content, it was stellar! a huge insight into the mistreatment of women throughout history and a very obvious indication of how far we still need to go.

Informative and hilarious
At first I was worried that I would tire of this content very quickly because I assumed from the title that it would contain a ton of complaining. It was the opposite. There are so many insane facts and stories in this book that I enjoyed learning about. This book was interesting, sarcastic and witty. I loved it.

Strangely Enjoyable?
Given the content of this book it is odd to say that I really liked it. authors and narrators did a really great job entertaining while also educating. the content itself is pretty horrifying, but I appreciate the knowledge and its delivery.

Best book on audible!!!
It’s about time this book is available! I love the comedy presentation of these always hard to hear facts about women’s experience throughout time. Critics are bound to say ‘get over it, it’s history and doesn’t exist anymore’ but that just shows how ignorant they remain. I love the authors, the delivery and the thoroughness. One of the best books I have read. A must read for all women and girls. Hey, why not change regular history books for this one. It’s a lot more informative and interesting. I couldn’t put it down. Way to go Megan and Merrill. You win!!!

Informative and entertaining
Loads of information about the treatment of women throughout history, all of it horrifying to imagine. Everything is told in a humorous way, making it a fun listen despite the seriousness of the topic. Merrill gave an excellent performance and was easy to listen to. Megan was too cynical and used way too much swearing for my tastes. I would have loved to share this with my tweens for the content, but the over-abundance of swearing makes that not possible.

wonderfully researched docu-story
Merrill and Megan's telling of this story is funny, vulgar at times, but so entertaining to listen too. What women have had to put up with for centuries upon centuries is inexcusable. There is no justification for men's barbarianism.
Now then can Kick Butt!!!!
Well worth the time to listen too!!!
