Publisher's Summary

Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together.

In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

Great overview of people's relationship with money

The book does a wonderful job of explaining why people see and use money the way they do. History lessons along the way with points of view backed up by facts. Some of these things I used to know and the book jogged my memory. Other things were new and quite interesting to learn.
All points are provided in a simple enough way to comprehend. Not complex but still very interesting and entertaining.

Nothing mind blowing

Fun to read/listen to, but nothing mind blowing. If you have read those popular personal finance titles, you will find this book as a review.

Perfect Balance

The book overall takes a narrative of using stories from the past and connecting it to the future and present. The book addresses risk and luck in financial success unlike most other financial books. Definitely a must read/Listen

Insightful

Loved Housel’s perspective on investing and how it relates to the investor’s own needs. Very insightful.. I bought the paper copy as well for our family and our teen kids that are already investing to understand the various concepts enumerated here. This book has brought a new perspective to investing and wealth.

Being financially reasonable

The Psychology of Money makes the reader reflect on which financial game is most reasonable, to you. Humans aren’t spreadsheets and its worth factoring our emotions in the costs that come with investing or whatever else we do with our money. This book also emphasizes time as a great generator of wealth. Overall, it reassures you to be reasonable when it comes to your finances and to not judge others quickly when looking at theirs.
