Publisher's Summary

A first-date dud, socially awkward, and overly fond of quick-dry clothes, genetics professor Don Tillman has given up on love, until a chance encounter gives him an idea.

He will design a questionnaire - a 16-page, scientifically researched questionnaire - to uncover the perfect partner. She will most definitely not be a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker or a late-arriver. Rosie is all these things. She is also fiery and intelligent, strangely beguiling, and looking for her biological father - a search that a DNA expert might just be able to help her with.

The Rosie Project is a romantic comedy like no other. It is arrestingly endearing and entirely unconventional, and it will make you want to drink cocktails.

ASD Reader Approved

Whenever I come across a book about a character on the spectrum I am usually disappointed. As someone on the spectrum, I am often subjected to an over stereotyped, romanticized, tokenism version of a neurotypical's guess at what a neurodivergent life is like. However, The Rosie Project left me pleasantly surprised. Although Don is a very typical expectation of what an autistic person is like, his analytical humour and determination to complete "the father project" enticed me to continue reading. An overall honest, heart-felt and generally accurate depiction of an aspie navigating the confusing world of love and relationships that had me laughing, and rooting for the characters to achieve their goals in the end. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who looking for a comfort read/sweet love story to brighten their reading experience.

Be patient

It took me a while to really get pulled into this story. Understanding the personality cure helped. The reader does an excellent job of capturing the essence of how this main character would interact and communicate. At times his ability to be in character caused me to laugh out loud at the lack of social graces that goes along with the syndrome.

Delightful

This was a beautiful and delightful story as told from the perspective of Don, who is (undiagnosed) on the spectrum and gives such an insightful perspective on his life and behaviour.

I was sorry when it was over.

Fantastic choice for my first audio book!

An exhilarating ride that tickles your funny bone and holds you in moments of thoughtful introspection. A delightful companion for a very long daily commute. The narrator gives an outstanding performance and holds your interest from start to finish adding layers to the story with his changes in voice and inflection. LOVED IT!

Great entertainment

I snorted and giggled my way through this book! Recommend for anyone who likes to laugh while recognizing themselves and/or their offspring and friends in the situations and logic.

A touching unemotional love story

Don definitely has Asperger's syndrome, but he doesn't seem to know it. He knows he is different. He creates the wife project which sets out a bunch of criteria that his future life partner must have such as non-smoker, math literate etc. He approaches the world logically and works for efficiency. He has an analytical mind and an amazing memory. In the spirit of all sappy romance novels he meets Rosie who aside from being physically attractive fails on all his criteria and to nobody's surprise, she is "the one".

I am not quite sure why this is under humour and satire as it is the plot of every romantic comedy you have ever seen and it is just as predictable.

What elevates this above your standard rom-com fair is that it is told from Don's point of view. The book has, and the narrator reinforces a "Flowers for Algernon" feel to the story. This makes it very much worth the listen. While I did enjoy this book I probably won't get the others in the series as the literary device employed feels very much like a one trick pony and the plots will just be predictable fish out of water stories. I could be wrong but I enjoyed this book enough that I don't want its successors to sully it for me.
