Story
Julien Doran arrived in sleepy Maudit Falls, North Carolina, with a heart full of hurt and a head full of questions. The key to his brother's mysterious last days might be found in this tiny town, and now Julien's amateur investigation is starting to unearth things the locals would rather keep buried. Story
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Story
My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Publisher's Summary
A former FBI agent is partnered with the enemy in this suspenseful male/male shifter romance from debut author Charlie Adhara.
Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton's plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park.
Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. But as far as Cooper's concerned, it's failing. As they investigate a series of mysterious deaths unlike anything they've seen, every bone in Cooper's body is suspicious of his new partner - even when Park proves himself as competent as he is utterly captivating.
When more people vanish, pressure to solve the case skyrockets. And though he'd resolved to keep things professional, Cooper's friction with Park soon erupts...into a physical need that can't be contained or controlled. But with a body count that's rising by the day, werewolves and humans are in equal danger. If Cooper and Park don't catch the killer soon, one - or both - of them could be the next to go.
Contains mature themes.

Loved it
4 Blue Roses
4 Blue Flames
Narrator Erik Bloomquist gave a good well-rounded performance filled with dramatic tension and vulnerable moments in this exceptional new wolf shifter suspense.
Now this was so good:
"Good, you feel so good.... Well, La-Di Fucking Da, Good for you , but what about me?.......Please, please Oliver, move, fuck me harder I want you so bad, take me fast and dirty!"
a river runs through it GIF
Yip, this was different than the usual. So far, no magic, no soul mates.
Just, o' so you are a wolf, want to work with me, so we can catch some bad guys?
Loved it, I will definitely listen to the rest of the series.
I recommend this for when you want some shifter action without lots of inner drama.
The plot was not predictable, but it definitely had familiar elements of a wolf shifter town, and it's secretive inhabitant.
Happy Listening

Took awhile
This story, although started off as a slow burn for me, has become one of my new favorite series and I can't wait to get the other books in this series. A simple story paced very well with a twist I almost didn't see coming. I didn't like being limited to Cooper's experience at first but watching Park through his eyes made me squeal with cuteness overload in a good way. Only downer is Bloomquist can't do some of the voices he attempts to which pulls you out of the story a touch. But it's only a few characters and they don't talk a lot so it's not too bad.

Worth the Rebuy
I loved it from beginning to end. When I first got the book, I was expecting a retelling of many but this was an unique story with a captivating MC. Daten was very relatable for a person who struggles to know what others think/feel about them. Always second-guessing himself in ways that I do, which made it even more thrilling to see him thrive throughout the story despite these insecurities. Park was a turning on it's head of other stories love interest and I will have to rebuy the rest of the series soon to finish their epic tale.

good start to new series
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book. The narrator however was very stilted at the first 50% I had to increase the listening speed but the book kept me interested and I carried on. I'm glad I did the narration was a little better as the book went on and by the end I was enjoying it better. The writing was funny and lovely as we get to know Cooper and Oliver story.

Robotic Narrator
There's a whole lot to unpack here. I enjoyed the story, and I like the characters--so far.
The problems with the writing are numerous, but are relatively easy to overlook. There's quite a bit of telling, rather than showing. There are a lot of secrets between our heroes, but that's understandable due to the nature of their budding relationship (I can see this as being irritating later on, though).
I could go deeper, but I just don't have the energy. I'll delve in after a second reading.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was not good. Very robotic. It was very much like listening to someone announce the news. There was no difference between anyone's voices, and I often found myself confused about who was talking.
