Story
Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

Secluded at his cottage in the woods, Gideon instructs Bess in the Craft, awakening formidable powers she didn’t know she had and making her immortal. She couldn't have foreseen that even now, centuries later, he would be hunting her across time, determined to claim payment for saving her life.

Story
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Probably better as a book
This is a companion book to the series and it has some interesting background/historical information. However, it's not really the kind of book you listen to...more something you could refer to or read in small doses when you felt curious.
A significant weakness is the abundance of mispronunciations - don't audio books have editors or producers? In addition to being simply wrong in some cases, other pronunciations differ from those of the Jennifer Ikeda narrations. It's annoying.
Finally, I really do love the PDF, but I wonder why the pictures reproduced are in black and white, especially the images of works of art?! That's just unprofessional.
In conclusion, if you are an All Souls fan and want a companion guide, purchase the book. The audio book is not worth your money or a credit.
Also, as a personal opinion only, bring back Jennifer Ikeda for any future audiobooks!
