Description
The long-awaited new novel from Margaret Atwood. The Year of the Flood is a dystopic masterpiece and a testament to her visionary power. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life - has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life. Two women have survived: Ren, a young trapeze dancer locked inside the high-end sex club Scales and Tails, and Toby, a God's Gardener barricaded inside a luxurious spa where many of the treatments are edible.
Have others survived? Ren's bioartist friend Amanda? Zeb, her eco-fighter stepfather? Her onetime lover, Jimmy? Or the murderous Painballers, survivors of the mutual-elimination Painball prison? Not to mention the shadowy, corrupt policing force of the ruling powers...
Meanwhile, gene-spliced life forms are proliferating: The lion/lamb blends, the Mo'hair sheep with human hair, the pigs with human brain tissue. As Adam One and his intrepid hemp-clad band make their way through this strange new world, Ren and Toby will have to decide on their next move. They can't stay locked away...
By turns dark, tender, violent, thoughtful, and uneasily hilarious, The Year of the Flood is Atwood at her most brilliant and inventive.

Not for me.
the first in this series was confusing and hard to get into and right as I was getting into it the book abruptly ended. So when I discovered it was part of a Trilogy I figured this one would pick up where the last one left off. That is absolutely not the case! This series seems scattered although the concept is a neat one it just is not engaging in the scattered storyline.

Gripping tale
Loved the marvelous world so full of detail and wit, strong characters that will stay with me long after the end of the story.

Loved it
Engrossing, imaginative, and captivating. The characters Atwood creates, especially the two protagonists, are so relatable yet fascinating.

Beautiful and accurate future telling
Atwood has long been a favourite author of mine but I’ve just discovered her Oryx and Crake trilogy. Her world building and dystopian story telling was wonderful in the first book but the interweaving in the second is so satisfying. I’m very much looking forward to the 3rd book.

Slow follow up to Oryx and Crake
The ending picked up, but it was a VERY slow burn. It tracks with Margaret Atwood type or character development. She is not typically my cup of tea, though I appreciate her abilities. However, I loved Oryx and Crake and this just fell very short for me.

Fascinating and true to our possible future
I didn’t read the first book yet, I began here. This would make a good movie. I ff the songs. Too long and preachy. But the book was great!

Great book two!
Really enjoyed this. Honestly the only part I don’t like is the occasional singing hymns — which I always always always skipped because they were immensely annoying and useless. But I still liked the book and would absolutely recommend this.
