Publisher's Summary

Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times best seller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology.

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe — it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order". But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

Not worth it...

Really boring, not sure what the draw is here. I don't care about the characters at all.

Possibly best book I've ever read

This second book in the Arc series surpassed all expectations. I am in awe. Absolutely mind blowing.
I am so very happy I decided to give this series a shot. A masterpiece.

How ingenious!

This is the second book in a trilogy.
Just like the first one, I was impressed by the author’s creativity, originality and storytelling skills.
The narrative is so good that I was easily transported into that world.
There are some thought provoking ideas.

This is an unforgettable sentence to have in its opening page: “This world is a flower I hold in my palm. I would end my own existence rather than crush it."

Isn’t that promising?

Well, I was not disappointed. Highly entertaining.

I won’t say anything else for now, and I may revisit this review later on, after reading the next book.

Lightning Strikes! Thunderhead is better than BK 1

I thought Scythe was great and was worried that this book wouldn’t live up to its predecessor. It superseded it. I love everything about this book, the pacing, the story, the characters. It’s fantastic! One new character that stood out for being exceptionally well written was Greyson Tolliver, his character arc was amazing!

There was one event in the story, just past the halfway point, where the limits of my belief in this dystopian society were tested. I felt cheated about how Shusterman handled said event, but how it later impacted the story was so great that I just went with it.

Greg Tremblay does a fantastic job of narrating all the male character and the Thunderhead. I especially appreciated how dispassionate he made his voice while narrating the Thunderhead’s thoughts. However, I still don’t love how he voices female characters, hence four stars for performance. The story was so great that I still felt the need to give an overall rating of five stars.
If you love Scythe, you won’t be disappointed by Thunderhead.

This is just as great as the second!

This series is great. Sometimes with new characters added to a story line it feels un-engaging but the author has done a fantastic job and this book was every bit as awesome and paced as the first. Completely hooked.
Great job by the narrator as well.

read book 1 first

If you read this book (which is book 2 in the arc of the scythe series) without reading book 1, you won't like it. Otherwise this is the best in young adult light fun, well-paced reading with plot twists and turns and surprises.

One you must read

This book is amazing. The storyline is full and in depth and captivating. After reading the last book I thought this one couldn’t be better but I may have been wrong. I have so many questions I want and swerved and can’t wait to dig into the next and final book.

My new favorite book

Just a few hours ago, I finished this incredible book, and I'm still reeling from a feeling of profound sadness now that it's come to an end. It's as though I'm mourning the loss of something that's been a part of my life forever, even though I only bought this book four days ago. Every aspect of it, especially the ending, was sheer perfection. The character development was absolutely amazing, and the world building pulled me so deeply into its universe that it felt like a second home. I don't even have the words to describe how much I loved the story. Trust me, do yourself a huge favor and read this book - it will exceed every expectation you could possibly have.
