Publisher's Summary

Saiya Buchanan is a wraith, able to detach her shadow from her body and send it off to do her bidding. But, unlike most of her kin, Saiya doesn't deal in death. Instead, she trades secrets - and in the goblin besieged city of Stirling in Scotland, they're a highly prized commodity. It might just be, however, that the goblins have been hiding the greatest secret of them all.

When Gabriel de Florinville, a Dark Elf, is sent as royal envoy into Stirling and takes her prisoner, Saiya is not only going to uncover the sinister truth. She's also going to realize that sometimes the deepest secrets are the ones locked within your own heart.

story was entertaining

Good story but could have been extended for another book. the narration was very monotone that made the book fall flat.

A Shadow of a Story

This one missed the for me. Interesting concept and great setting but the main characters seemed to be lifted out of an old school bodice ripper novel and shoe horned into a urban fantasy novel.

Predictable love story, weak fantasy world

Saiya is a wrath living in the modern day city of Stirling Scotland. It is ruled by goblins and under siege from another faction of goblins. Gabriel is a dark elf who has some magic, is an envoy of the government and hates wraths. What follows is a very predictable love story with a very weak story setting. The world doesn't hold together, all this is happening in a world with cellphones and the internet yet somehow this city is isolated while still being in present day U.K.. The dark elf has this seemingly unlimited magic ability but for some reason can't get simple things done. The abilities of the wrath seem to be whatever is needed at the time. Everything else is predictable and you could guess the story from the first three sentences of this review.

The narrator is very good and the only reason I saw this through to the end. I will look for more books narrated by her but I will definitely be skipping further offerings from this author.

Did not like the narration.

I love Helen Harper books, however I could hardly listen to this one as I did not like the narration at all.

I was entertained, but that's about it

it was an entertaining story, for the most part, and was well performed. there were some parts that fell back onto the woman submitting to the male lead, even while trying to push a strong female lead character. Just felt a bit dated in those sections. if you aren't deeply offended by that, and I'm not, you can allow yourself to be entertained with a pedestrian stroll through a surface-deep fantasy world. I was entertained, but not deeply impressed - and sometimes that's ok.
