ABOUT THIS MESSAGE:
We tend to think of focus and distraction as opposites. If someone is focused, they are not easily affected by the random events and encounters that come across their path. Apart from Christ, that kind of focus spells disaster for our neighbor because apart from Christ, a common element in any specific focus for our life is our inherent desire to justify ourselves, and our neighbor is only a means to that end. Christ came to destroy our need for self-justification. Christ frees us to actively seek a neighbor in need. It might seem that the Christian who loves their neighbor is distracted, but they are truly focused on the salvation that comes from Jesus and the opportunities to serve.
