    Nov 21 2025

Cash-Flow Series: Where Is Your Money Leaking?

In this episode, Julie dives into the not-so-fun—but oh-so-important—side of practice finances: figuring out where your hard-earned money is sneaking out the door.

If you’ve ever wondered why your practice feels “tight” on cash even when revenue looks strong, you are definitely not alone. Julie walks you through the six most common cash-flow bottlenecks that drain practices, both big and small, and provides practical, judgment-free advice on how to spot and solve them.

Whether you’re a solo owner or running a thriving group, you’ll leave this episode with fresh clarity—and maybe even a little sigh of relief.

Three Things You’ll Learn in This Episode:

    1. How to spot hidden expenses that might be eating away at your profit (without you even realizing it).
    2. Why clinician compensation is the “make or break” number for group practice profitability—and what healthy percentages look like.
    3. How to break the “shiny object” spending cycle and focus your resources where they’ll actually make a difference for your bottom line.

  • Episode 192: Cash-Flow Series: Where Is Your Money Stuck?
    Nov 14 2025

In this episode, we tackle the most common cash bottlenecks on the incoming side of your private practice. Julie explains why problems are inevitable in business—and how a calm, systems-first response keeps money moving. You’ll learn how to spot a billing slowdown vs. a standstill, which weekly metrics to review (unbilled sessions, note counts, insurance aging, denials, and deposits), and why working with a team of billers creates helpful redundancies. We also cover clinician utilization—how many of the clinical hours you expect are actually filled—and why a dip here often points to a marketing gap rather than a staffing problem.

We round things out with insurance-specific red flags (payer delays, audits, denials) and practical safeguards: verify eligibility before sessions, track trends weekly, and diversify panels so you’re not overly reliant on a single payer. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s visibility. With consistent metrics and owner-level oversight, you can identify where cash is getting stuck and unstick it quickly. Next week, Part 2 digs into the spending side—where cash exits your practice and how to plug leaks without stalling growth.

    Oct 31 2025

In this uplifting follow-up episode, Julie Herres welcomes Linzy Bonham from Money Skills for Therapists to talk about what practice owners can actually do when the economy feels uncertain, client demand is softening, and those waitlists have disappeared. If you’re a solo or group practice owner who’s used to worrying about burnout but now find yourself worrying about empty appointment slots, you are not alone! Julie and Linzy get real about the “pendulum swing” from burnout prevention to getting flexible, creative, and—sometimes—doing the unglamorous work that needs to get done to keep your business healthy.

This episode is packed with honest advice and plenty of encouragement for anyone facing hard decisions, whether that means picking up a few more client hours or finally trying those marketing ideas you’ve been avoiding. The conversation covers practical strategies for bringing in “fast money,” the difference between working in versus on your business, why measuring what works is essential, and how resilience and adaptability are now your most valuable business assets. If you need a pep talk and some actionable ideas, this one’s for you.
