Scholars have portrayed Frankfurter as a judicial failure, a liberal lawyer turned conservative justice, and the Warren Court’s principal villain. And yet none of these characterizations rings true.

Special Agent Edwin Woodriffe was one of the first African-Americans to integrate the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the 1960s.
