I left a piece of my heart in each one of these places that I visited along with leaving a piece of my heart, with every one of those amazing souls that I met & connected with along the way, a lot of who I still know to this day.

Diese neue Ausgabe des Buchs der Lieder kann ich dem überrheinischen Publikum nicht zuschicken, ohne sie mit freundlichsten Grüßen in ehrlichster Prosa zu begleiten. Ich weiß nicht, welches wunderliche Gefühl mich davon abhält, dergleichen Vorworte, wie es bei Gedichtsammlungen üblich ist, in schönen Rhythmen zu versifizieren. Seit einiger Zeit sträubt sich etwas in mir gegen alle gebundene Rede, und wie ich höre, regt sich bei manchen Zeitgenossen eine ähnliche Abneigung. Es will mich bedünken, als sei in schönen Versen allzu viel gelogen worden, und die Wahrheit scheue sich, in metrischen Gewanden zu erscheinen.
