Ein junger Krankenpfleger wird entsetzlich entstellt in seiner Wohnung aufgefunden. Der Täter hat ihm die Augen ausgehöhlt, die Zunge abgeschnitten und die Ohren durchbohrt. Bei der Leiche wird ein Teil einer alten Milchtüte gefunden, auf der die Vermisstenanzeige eines vierjährigen Mädchens abgebildet ist. Mit der Hand wurde dort eine Botschaft hinterlassen: "Happy Independence Day 1995. Washington Park. Erinnerst du dich, Howard."
