The narrator is exquisite. The story is touching, heartbreaking and informative. It is a shameful part of American history that is told in a way that moves and encourages understanding.
Highly recommend.

The prose captured me from the first line. A lovely story. Also intriguing, was the narration. - both smooth and appropriate to the story.

Once upon a time PC could write an intriguing novel. This one was utter drivel. Characters are long played out and the story was painfully benign.
The narration was barely tolerable. Her take on characters voices (even Scarpetta’s) was nails on a chalkboard.
This one is going back. Don’t waste your time.
