This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Like every other S.K. boom ive listened to on this, it was absolutely wonderfully performed.
there's a point where Randall Flag's laugh puts Pennywise's "Heya Georgie" to shame.

Story wise, the ending is fairly anticlimactic, and I'm left with a lot of annoying questions. However, what really drove it for me was how real the characters felt.

amazing read overall

Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. This is the 12th expedition, and their group is made up of four women. Part of their mission is to map the terrain and collect specimens, and, above all, to avoid being contaminated by Area X itself. They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers, but it's the surprises that came across the border with them, and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another, that change everything.

i found the performance incredibly droll, and little effort was put into the various characters. But the contents of the book itself were amazing.

Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

there were a few I absolutely adored, and others that were so bland I could not tell you what they were about, other than containing half of the words in a thesaurus.

unless it was supposed to be something scary, then he merely described it as "indescribable"
