Story
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

I've seen a lot of good reviews for this book and I just don't understand! It is incredibly boring and nothing ever happens. The female lead is a horrible person and I felt zero empathy for her, even with her back story. The narrator sounds like Glenda, the good witch and added nothing to the story. There is so much unnecessary detail about every single movement the main character makes that I wanted to scream. Just not for me. I cant wait to get into a new book.

The premise looked great... but it was only just OK for me. It starts off interesting but just went a bit flat somewhere in the middle. I think it was the POV that bothered me. I just couldn't get into the characters.

I have been listening to a lot of very serious books lately and I wanted something more lighthearted. This did the trick. It was well written, had some thoughtful serious moments but it was mostly amusing and fun. The narration was just right and I fell in love with the characters. Overall, just what I needed. I would highly recommend.

Dark and disturbing

Well this book definitely affected me. It held me interest throughout but it was a bit like watching (listening to) a train wreck. You cant stop watching and you really want to know what happens but you ultimately feel guilty about your voyerism. I was very interested in the story and what happens to the girls but after it was done I was left with a lot of questions and a lot of unsettling thoughts about what I just listened to, which I'm not sure is a good thing.
