It is great to be able to read positive Christian novels that can show how meeting with Jesus and developing a relationship with Him is possible amid difficult circumstances. The narrator's deep voice is soothing even though the action can be difficult at times. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

this is not a book I would ordinarily read, however in listening to the author's reading of this story I could feel the anger, frustration and love come through. This book is raw in it's telling of Indigenous reality with regards to stigma and treatment by others who just don't care to get to know or understand. And also how as two spirited people are sometimes not even embraced by their own communities and families. This book is great to show the more difficult side of living on the fringes of 'normal' society and how cruel life can sometimes be.

The pace of the story picked up within the second half. I was a little disappointed at the suddenness of the ending. I could also feel for the emotions of the narrator. This could be a great story to learn about how we create boxes for people and how they are to fulfill their purpose in life. I will continue to hope that we don't have to meet the expectations others place upon us.

A great reminder!

The slow pace of the narrator and the story become a character in its telling. Chapter 13 was a great reminder of WHY we need to know our own history to enlighten us as to how far we have come and what next steps we should take.

I am so glad this is a selection for Canada Reads 2021! It speaks to inequality out of fear and tradition.
I know others have given not great reviews but I would challenge them to listen to this narrator tell the story and not fall in love with these characters. This story is definitely needed at this time if people start asking the questions this author unveils about our society and culture today.

This series is an awesome quarantine listen! As I continue through the series, the twists and turns of each story and character development is a pleasant and often unexpected surprise. It has been great getting to know these characters, even though sometimes the narrator doesn't seem to quite get the emotion of the moment quite right.

Great guilty pleasure listen!

The story had a wonderful twist to who the killer turned out to be! Narration sometimes feels flat.

The narration was wonderful. Even though you have to suspend faith at times, following the arc of the story it is great how things all come together. The side of good always wins, even though it is often hard to see it during the ups and downs of life.

Great story

some facts given force the reader to suspend belief (or faith) however if one can do that it becomes a very engaging story
