Story
Clive Barker has made his mark on modern fiction by exposing all that is surreal and magical in the ordinary world - and exploring the profound and overwhelming terror that results. With its volatile mix of the fantastical and the contemporary, the everyday and the otherworldly, Weaveworld is an epic work of dark fantasy and horror - a tour de force from one of today's most forceful and imaginative artists.

This my most favourite Clive Barker novel. I read it so long ago that I'd forgotten so much about it, until I found Audible and thought I'd love to listen to it instead. Weaveworld gives me the taste of gruesome I expect from Barker, while also entering into the world of fantasy. A definite read.

Story
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

Story
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

So, if you're thinking you should watch the movie edition of this book, don't. It's nothing like the book and lacks in so many ways. I wish Stephen wouldn't let the movie industry trash his novels. But hey, I suppose he can. This book, however, was a great read. It has that supernatural vibe with a blending of romance and thriller. Great story.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

What Can I Say?

You either love this series, or you don't. I will say that I enjoyed it much more than I did the movie. It is a love story, for sure, but I feel Stephenie Meyer could have backed off a bit on repeating how beautiful the vampires are. She needed to give the MC a tad more of a character, going deeper into her thoughts and sharing them with the reader so we could better understand why she just wasn't afraid.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to The Chain. The situation the characters are put in is quite unique, at least to me. What it lacked in was that I felt the writer could have gone a bit further and really ramped up tension. But definitely a good listen.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

In my teens, I was a Stephen King fan, so decided to listen to some of his stories on audible. Being a writer myself, I now see the appeal to his stories. Stephen creates compelling characters, and the characters in The Outsider were nothing short of that. I loved this book. Stephen's word choice speaks to his audience. He doesn't try to dazzle us with big words or poetic descriptions. He just tells a damn good story.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
