As an one of afro-caribbean discent living as a minority in North America I connect with Remi's points. She is very relevant. The last Chapter on class in the British system had me struggling a bit.

The African accent of the narration was a little tricky to get used to to start but all in all the story was superb. Many dramatic moments, well developed characters and the fictional life of Aminata is as realistic and historically driven as any autobiography.
