Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

It's been over a decade since Nora left her hometown of Scupper Island, Maine, and very seldom looked back. She's carved out a successful life in Boston, where no one knows her as the awkward girl with the delinquent sister and the dad who left, but a not-as-dramatic-as-it-sounds brush with death has her taking stock of her life. Inspired to reconnect with her prickly mother and snarky teenage niece, Nora returns home for the summer, where she's forced to face the people she's spent the last ten years trying to avoid.

This was a book that met and exceeded all my expectations, with its twists and turns. Just like life. The narrator, Xe Sands did such a great job! It was like she was reading her own words. I will search her out again! And Kristin Higgins did not disappoint at all! She always has such wonderful, meaningful works!!

It began on New Year's Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max.

This reality-like book, something that could happen, was very scary to think of, and horrifying in a book form, but didn’t scare me like a horror novel would have. I enjoy books that have fairies and the like and this one was by far the best I’ve listened to ever. Nora Roberts outdid herself!! Can’t wait to start her second in this series right away!!

I loved the account of where Michelle and Barack Obama came from. They were ordinary kids, growing up in tough lives as black children. I loved how Michelle told of the excitement of moving in to the White House and the things they changed for the better. I loved how Michelle stood up for her principles and affected change for children in such a positive way! I also felt bad for the outgoing President Obama and Michelle, to see what the country had elected to take over. Overall, such a wonderfully read and content of a book!!
