I think any King fan familiar with the tale of Ted Brautigan will anticipate this story heading in a particular direction. I certainly did. In the end I can't say whether I was right or wrong. What I can say is that The Institute lacked the depth in it's characters and their relationships that I've come to expect from King. It is that, I believe, that makes King a truly incredible story teller. When it's not there, I'm truly disappointed.

Loved every minute!

Cornwell's series provides the perfect balance of fact with fiction. The characters move through the historically determined plot with depth and personality, and not merely as place holders. The performance is also superb. The characterization is subtle but effective.

Not Follett's best, but worth the read!

The performance is fine. I thought the story was not as compelling as his other works.

The story was bad enough but the constant redundancies were just irritating! Perhaps cutting out the redundancies and getting to the twist a lot sooner would have avoided me developing a thorough hate for the wooden characters and general disdain for the plot. The last 30 minutes of oh-I-get-it-now do not make up for the first 5 hours of this-is-so-improbable-people-don't-act-like-that!

The characters are wooden and entirely unbelievable! The performance was fine considering the material the narrator was working with!
