The story drags

I struggled with this book. At first I thought it may be the narrator...it felt so slow. Then I realized it was the story itself as well as the main character. Usually twists in mysteries keep you on edge and make you want to find out more. But in this case I felt every twist was nothing more than a way to drag out the story. I tried to be sympathetic to main character, but she made me tired and feel as crappy as she did throughout the book. By the end, I was just very unimpressed.

I had trouble getting into this story, and not one character was compelling. The story eventually became interesting, but it ended so abruptly and with so many unanswered questions. I don't believe there is a sequel, but if there is, I doubt I would read it.

All the characters were weak and none of them grew throughout the story. None of their stories, actions or relationships made me sympathize with any of them.

I haven't really enjoyed Karen Rose's books based in Chicago involving the Hunters and off-shoot characters. But once a few of them moved to Minneapolis, the characters seemed to improve and I found myself more caught up in the plot lines and the twists that came with them.

I struggled with this audio book. The narrator's voice annoyed me for starters. As well, I just couldn't get into any of the characters. I'm struggling to find the words to describe why they were so boring. Maybe the author was just redundant about describing their feelings and characteristics, but she kept them at arm's length and did not delve into any of them for me to really like or dislike.

I will never listen to another audiobook from this narrator. His voice characterisatons were juvenile, especially for women, which came off as condescending. It was like he was making fun of the women in this novel by overplaying them, so then rlthey came off looking weak and dumb. The story itself was just OK...but the characters were annoying because they were all full of self-pity. It was a frustrating listen.

Great suspenseful audibook...couldn't stop listening. Only critique is that there were almost too many storylines to follow, but it is the start of a series, so I'm guessing that's part of it. I've already downloaded the second book.
