This book was an introduction to the genocides in the Congo to me. The topic is presented in a very consumable and logical manner. Well referenced and framed without being dry. Through accounts of people witness to and affected by the atrocities it really shows the human aftermath of the colonial history.

Some interesting concepts, terrible execution

Reads like a YA novel. Plot like Swiss cheese, cringe worthy dialogue. A few interesting social concepts.

Great story, pretty bad narration.

I enjoyed the story quite a lot. However it was difficult to follow because of the narration. It sounds as though he's just reading through word by word. Very little inflection and minimal voice changes for different characters. Very unfortunate.

An expansive mind-bending journey

Liu takes the grand ideas of The Dark Forest and weaves an ever greater tapestry. Great narration.
