I have read many books about Holocaust and this subject is very close to my heart. I have very mixed feelings about this book. The story of the family members is extraordinary but as a novel it lacks character building, substance to events and has a-lot of fillers. It is still a good read but there are better books on the same subject like The Storyteller...

Amazing story, amazing performance

I am not new to audio books and had the pleasure of many great performances but the performance of Saskia Maarleveld is superb!!! The story, the characters and the performance make it want for more!!! I wanted the story to end to learn what is going to happen and I didn’t at the same time as i wanted to be in the story longer and listen to Saskia’s voice on and on. I will look for more books from Kate and narrated by Saskia. Thank you!!!

I was not able to stop listening. The story captivated me from the very beginning. The character development is so vivid that i could picture myself in that swamp, smell it and hear it. Highly recommend this book.
