What an incredible story shared by a gifted narrator!
This book has all of the intrigue of a best selling international spy novel and goes even further in greatness with an underpinning of deep spiritual truths. All that without coming across like a cheesy Christian book. I’ll listen again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good book.

This book is packed with revelation and insight that’s all wrapped up in an interesting story.
Ted Dekker does it again! I now have another book full of bookmarks that will be gone over again and again. He really knows how to weave Truth and insight into a life-altering book that’s interesting and has a catchy plot that keeps you wanting to listen.
The narrator is gifted too. He really brings this book to life.

Story
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

This is a good story. I pushed through the terrible narration because the story was so well done.

Ted Dekker is by far my new favourite author. His books seem to breath new life into me, remind me of the depth of love that already exists in me and renew hope in places that need to be reminded there’s hope.
This, like his other books, is not just a great story with amazing characters. Dekker has a gift for twisting a great tale and yet injecting it with the revelation knowledge we are all seeking on our own journeys through life.
I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in a thrilling tale or for anyone seeking something deeper in life. You won’t be disappointed.
