Crazy Rich Asians is the outrageously funny debut novel about three super-rich, pedigreed Chinese families and the gossip, backbiting, and scheming that occurs when the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia brings home his ABC (American-born Chinese) girlfriend to the wedding of the season.

Shallow and mind numbing

I’m a fan of rom coms, but this book was painful to listen to. There’s only so much one can hear about jewels and clothes and money over and over again in each chapter. I had hoped that the story would go deeper than the book’s title and that the characters and their motivations would be more compelling. The narrator made me cringe — Her accents are pretty horrible and inaccurate. I’d imagine if I were reading this book, mastering a Singaporean accent would be a must and at least getting the Chinese pronunciations right should be a minimum requirement.
