This book is worth the effort. I'd say that about 30% of the time, I had no idea what was going on from an overall storyline perspective. Having said that, just enjoying the stories within the story, the fantastic characters and dialogue, made it easy to just keep listening. Dion Graham does a fabulous job bringing the various characters to life and enhancing the intensity of the many action scenes and passionate conversations.
I'll probably need to listen again before Book 2 but I will definitely stay with this series.

I find most 19th fiction to be long winded and in desperate need of editing but at least Dostoevsky and Tolstoy had great stories to get you through the 50 page side bars. For me, the nuisance and judgement between classes in 1830 France is just not that interesting in 2020.
It's well written with some nice sentences every now and then like "Sometimes one must make themselves the hammer so as not to be made the anvil." The narrator's soothing voice and eloquent pace are probably the only reasons I didn't give up a 3rd of the way through.

Now I only want to be read to by Tom Hanks.

This book is fantastic. A compelling story with characters that stay with you as you ask yourself how you would manage the same situations. All the depth of feeling and all the humour is made even deeper and funnier when read by the brilliant Tom Hanks.

This is a real pleasure and should not be missed.

Wow. I feel like this is one of the most important books I’ve ever listened to. I backed up to re-listen to certain concepts or details constantly. Fascinating perspective and all the right questions. I loved this book and beautifully narrated. Perfect tone for the subject matter.

My new gold standard for audio book performance.

I had read some other reviews prior to listening the 1Q84 and all I can say is, grossly under-rated! Outstanding story with best in class narration all around. I loved this audio book!

This is the best book I've listened to in 5 years and the single book I recommend when asked. I got so much out of it and highly entertaining ride.
