I notice that I am very much in the minority her; most seem impressed with this book while it very much is not for me. To me a story needs to go someplace and this one fails that completely. It is one long saga of things being bad, with no hope in sight and at the end of it all, a lot of people have died and we end the book in pretty well the same situation as we started it. The character development is pretty blah at best in my opinion. I won't continue with the series. R.C. Bray is an outstanding narrator but wasted on this.

Same old brilliance..

I imagine Abercrombie's writing isn't for everyone. It is very much NSFW, graphic, with loads of rather detailed violence and sex and it lacks the genre's typical morally upstanding heros. But if that doesn't bother you, it is also absolutely brilliant, at times funny, at times loaded with suspense and drama and it is about as good as adult fantasy gets. Steven Pacey's narration style is also perfectly suited for it. Note that although this may be the first book in a new series, it does take place in the world of the First Law Series of books and characters he used in those appear; some are part of the story, older of course, and some simply are there as legends. You don't need to have read, or listened to, those previous books to enjoy A Little Hatred but I would suggest it.
