Quite a good story, good characters and lots of twists and turns until the last few chapters where it feels like he was given a deadline by his editor to get it done and he did it in one long all nighter. Quite disappointed and it really ruined what was an otherwise an exciting story. The last two have been like this as well.

The “lectures” continually refer to props and examples that we can’t see. Oftentimes you can use your imagination but in others it is quite difficult. The professor does a very good job of tying together geology and biology and chemistry to make a coherent story of how the earth was formed and uses many practical examples to make his points. For the most part he keeps it to science and stays away from contention. Quite good.

Uninspired technobabble

It starts out suspenseful but reads like an advertisement for technology companies and Gulfstream business jets. No fewer than 4 chapters started out with “onboard the Gulfstream G550 business jet...”. The ending was very underwhelming and felt like a real let down after the build up. The symbology was a real stretch and the puzzles felt contrived. Feels like he is dialling it in and/or trying too hard iaafter his better works.
