This was my first thriller, and while I found it started a little slow like I read in the reviews online, it held my interest throughout. Even when no big events were happening, the writing was solid. I really enjoyed the ending and thought it wrapped up the book well and made it a worthwhile listen.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

I found the start to be a little slow to pick up, but still captivating as it began to describe the world of Oasis. Pretty soon after is when it really got going and I did not want to stop listening until I finished the whole book. #audible1

I'll start off by saying this isn't the kind of book that's typically in my wheelhouse. I enjoy zombie books and apocalypse stuff, and anything medical related so I thought I'd give it a whirl. The concept was fairly well executed, however about 60% of the way through I found the pacing kind of slow and the purpose of the story seemed to get a little bit lost. I didn't find myself eager to finish it, but I stuck with it. The ending was better than the middle, nothing fantastic but still satisfying, though it didn't leave me wanting to continue the series. #audible1

When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

From reading the summary and listening to a sample, I thought I knew what kind of book this was going to be. I was very wrong, and I'm glad I was. It's so much more than can be captured in the review, and without giving too much away, the narrated story of the characters feels real and makes even the mundane activities keep your attention. The twists and turns made the book unpredictable without being totally unbelievable, and I thought the ending was different and very well done, it caught me very off guard. #audible1

The princess bride is my favourite movie, and I very much enjoyed hearing all the details and secrets from Cary Elwes himself, hearing from some of the other people who worked on the film is a wonderful touch as well. Every time I drag my friends into watching the movie with me, I always excitedly point out little things I learned from listening to Cary's book. Even the biggest princess bride fan will learn something new from this book. #audible1
