Just like the original, Ready Player Two is filled with fun, intrigue, and nostalgia. It’s a real page turner (so to speak) and is again excellently narrated by the incomparable Will Weaton. If you listened to the first, it’s a no brainer, use your credit on this book.

Unsurprisingly Barack Obama’s A Promised land is among the best books of 2020. It is a rare treat to have a former president who is also a professional author. And the fact the Obama narrates the audiobook himself, giving us almost 30 hours of that soothing oration that has been so notably absent for the last 4 years, makes this a must listen.

Story
Rick Mercer can always be relied on to provoke a strong reaction - but what he said one fall day in 2017 truly shocked Canada. In a rant posted on social media, the great Canadian satirist announced loud and clear that the 15th season of the Rick Mercer Report - the nation's best-watched and best-loved comedy show - would be the last. This volume brings together never-before-published rants from the last five seasons of the show, plus a selection of the very best rants from earlier years.

Though it was a bit exhausting listening to Rick yell, I mean rant, at me for 6 hours straight, it was also highly entertaining :) The best part was the stories dropped in about hilarious behind the scenes moments while filming the Rick Mercer Report. I only wish there was more of this and a little less of the rants. Canadians, fans of Rick and the show will love this book.

Thousands of years ago, Earth’s terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity’s great empire fell, and the program’s decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it’s been waiting for them.

I don't know why I grabbed the sequel because I felt the same about the first one! As with the first, very unique and interesting take on alien life, AI, etc. I just could not get into it. Found myself spacing out, missing stuff. But it's not terrible, so if you are sci-fi obsessed and want to devote more attention to it, go for it!

Story
Masters of Doom is the amazing true story of the Lennon and McCartney of video games: John Carmack and John Romero. Together, they ruled big business. They transformed popular culture. And they provoked a national controversy. More than anything, they lived a unique and rollicking American Dream, escaping the broken homes of their youth to produce the most notoriously successful game franchises in history - Doom and Quake - until the games they made tore them apart. This is a story of friendship and betrayal, commerce and artistry.

Unique, interesting, but not a page turner for me
Reviewed: 2020-06-16
Maybe it’s just me and my level of distraction when trying to listen to this, but it didn’t pull me in as much as other sci-fi (for example Isamovs foundation series really did it for me). Cool and unique concepts for sure though! I could see how other sci fi fans would love it. Maybe I’d give it a read again someday.
