Story
I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts, I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place.

Great new story idea!
Reviewed: 2021-01-10
This book was a great new story idea! I really enjoyed the premise and the storyline. Even though it is set in a school it isn’t a juvenile story.
I did find that the pacing was a bit strange and some parts seemed kinda slow.
My only complaint is the narrator. I loved the way she read the characters and the differences in accents are great but there are certain words that she just cannot pronounce. Once I got used to it it was ok but in the beginning it almost made me stop listening to the book.
Overall - a great story and I can’t wait for the next one!

Story
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Nora Jacobs is different. Nora knows exactly what kinds of hellish creatures haunt the streets of Detroit. Thanks to a unique set of psychic abilities, Nora has managed to steer clear of the underworld most of her life. Bad narrator

This story has a lot of potential but I can’t get past the extremely irritating narrator. She is very monotone with no real difference between the characters, but the worst part is that she sounds extremely nasally/whiny and it’s driving me crazy. I ended up returning the book and I am going to try reading them instead.

Great story with a different idea. I loved the idea of a human who helps others from the galaxy and the narrator does a great job. To me she sounds a bit like Dolly Parton, so if that’s not your jam you will most likely not enjoy this book.

I greatly enjoyed this spin on my favourite Austin novel. The story is short and sweet without being silly or kitschy. The premise is cute and the changes the author makes to the story create more satisfying conclusions for all of the characters. I would heartily recommend this to anyone who loves the original.

Story
Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. These ominous words, slashed from the pages of a book of Psalms, are the last threat that the darling of London society, Sir Edward Grey, receives from his killer. Before he can show them to Nicholas Brisbane, the private inquiry agent he has retained for his protection, Sir Edward collapses and dies at his London home, in the presence of his wife, Julia, and a roomful of dinner guests.

Worst narrator ever
Reviewed: 2019-11-28
The story is quite good but the narrator is literally the worst I have ever heard. Her attempts at different accents made me cringe every time and her pronunciation of words is extremely irritating. Her interpretation of Lady Julia made me hate the character and overall she really ruined my immersion into the story. I would recommend reading the books instead of listening to this version.
