I was drawn to this book as a queer person in need of queer stories. I was not disappointed as I read about the author's life, really feeling the excitement in discovering who you are and the anxiety around family and community when you love them but they are silent or unaccepting of queer identities. The author's religious and POC perspective added a valuable element of the unfamiliar for me as an agnostic white person, I felt this book was equal parts relateable and eye-opening. The world needs much much more of this.

I wasn't expecting this novel to delve so deep into mental illness and addiction, but it went there. Characters were so human. Jokes got deeply uncomfortable / awkward. Highly relateable and somehow still shocking scenes. Amazing writing.

Felt very slow. I found the story for this one didn't keep me as interested as the previous book. The protagonist's point of view usually makes up for the somewhat dreary storyline, and it did pick up near the end, but otherwise it dragged on and I mostly wanted to just get through it.

Read this in high school and decided to listen to the audio version. Needs more Tim Curry, but otherwise excellent cast and still a great read.

Good audio version. Very familiar Michael Crichton characters and storyline. Explanation behind the science was convincing, but not nearly as much effort was put into the plot / villain's motives.
