Interesting and thought provoking story of TN's early years, he takes us on his life journey through a society most of us know little about. At times sad, at times angry, he punctuates the tough emotions with his well honed wit and humour, making us laugh when we should cry.

Raw and real, Ms. Vermettes words swept me into the lives of the family and held me in their passion and strength until the end. So many layers of truth and wisdom are interwoven, so much honesty in the characters, so real and alive I have images in my mind of each personality introduced as If I have known them a long time. The author dares to shake societal assumptions with twists and turns that lay bare the bones and flesh of our true humanity in Canadian society. The imprints of trauma and the fierce love that tries so hard to make space for healing, even if it takes generations, are heart wrenchingly portrayed in this novel of strength, resilience and family.

This is a story of Canada. Of history and how it weaves our intertwined lives today. it is a story of confusion and sorting out, a careful unpacking of the effects of colonization. It is anger. it is regret. It is hope. It is a story Canadians need to read so they now who they are.

One of the most interesting books I have heard.

I love her writing. I love her ideas, her turns of phrase, her characters, her insights and her utter brilliance in her craft. This book of hers was deep, reflective, funny, interesting and shines a light on the cycles of insanity our collective societies can descend into. A real glimpse at where we are in North America and a reminder that we have been here before, just as irrational, just as hateful and just as illogically dangerous as a society. I can't stop thinking about this story. The characters are friends.

I could not stop listening to this story. It was beautiful, heart wrenching, intriguing and the characters were intricate and expressive. I loved the layered plots that unfolded like a great who done it, Leaving you searching for clues and trying to figure out what happened until the very end. A beautiful love story, a murder mystery, and a triumph all rolled into one great novel. I will be looking for more stories from this author.

I love books that take you right into the story and hold you captive like this one did. I could not wait to be doing something that allowed me to just listen. i could see, smell, taste the story and lost track of where I was in this world so caught up in the world she writes. It haunts, this one.. and I love it.
