I try to avoid novels like this one, it’s a dark and ugly read. The detailed violence and threats of violence, especially directed at children, is not my idea of an entertaining read.
I did not enjoy any part of this novel.

I really enjoyed this novel as it’s a pretty straight forward storey which is quite engaging. I liked the author’s narration as well . I generally enjoy more character development than you will find in this novelbut there was enough to keep me interested.
I found the plot line interesting, particularly Jamie’s role. Solid good read ( listen).

A detailed book about both place and people. The character development was the most engaging part of the book for me; the actual plot was fairly predictable and the time it took to resolve was rather unbelievable, I found myself becoming impatient with the supposedly bright detectives inability to figure out what had happened.
I really like Smith as a character and hope there is bit more dynamic development of Waters in upcoming books as he is a rather too vague presence currently.

This silly story was made much better by the narration. She did a convincing job of a number of voices with varying English accents. The storyline is simple and not particularly engaging. There is no real tension or complexity but as a bubble gum listen sort of entertaining.

I don’t think publishers understand how discombobulating changing narrators in a series is. This change heavily impacted my enjoyment of this book. Why do this?? Also I have to say the male voices were bad, almost cartoonishly bad . I thought the storey was pretty lame too, so overall not a great listen.

This book is very unlike the others in the series. Havers makes a one statement appearance at the conclusion and Lynley is only observed. As these are my favourite characters in the series, I missed them. However as a sociological commentary on the ravages of poverty, addiction , and marginalization this is entertaining and well written and insightful.

I have listened to almost all of E George’s books and enjoyed them, however this book got on my nerves. The repeating of full names and titles grew tedious as did the detailed repetitive geographical descriptions. And the amount of Italian was ridiculous and substantially detracted from my enjoyment of this novel. It’s unfortunate that these faults occur as I feel Barbara became more fully realized as a character and she is my favourite. On to the next with fingers crossed .

New narrator negatively impacted my enjoyment of this audiobook. Lacking the nuance and intonation of the previous narrator. The accents and pronunciation were all over the place at times.
I enjoyed the writing and storyline but felt it could have used one more good edit.

Beautifully written and utterly fascinating. Filled with vivid imagery and sentences which are worth hearing again and again. I know nothing about Greek Mythology but this lovely book had stirred my interest.
Exquisite narration, one of the best I have ever listened to. Have now read( listened to) her next book- great as well.
Do yourself a favour and get this book.

A most enjoyable audiobook. Excellent narration ; I enjoyed the accents very much and unlike Some of the Vera narrations not strident and .off putting. Engaging storyline and as someone completely unfamiliar with the Shetlands full of fascinating detail. detail
