At this point in the series, the plot and it's characters have incredible depth and momentum. This installment pays off in so many ways as it sets the stage for grander more fantastical events to follow in future books. Both narrators continue to show their mastery with an even more diverse character set. Kate's voice of pattern is hands down the best, though.

In listening to this book in its entirety, Brandon made it clear that the protagonist deserved her own story line because of the larger role she would play in later books. I was about to start Book 3: Oathbringer before he highly recommended reading this one. There are definitely pieces of information here now that I'm just beginning Oathbringer that Edgedancer helps add context to since the overall universe of the Stormlight Archives is so vast. That being said, it still feels like an isolated story that doesn't have enough importance related to Book 1 & 2. I'm hoping that I'll hear more from Lift as I progress through Book 3 to make this story feel more relevant to me. In my opinion, I lost a bit of momentum here having gone from reading Books 1 and 2 back to back.

Overall, the narration was top notch. Kate Reading is incredibly talented and brings Lift to life vividly through her immature and enigmatic heroism. Part of me wishes I had just read this in retrospect once Lift becomes more of a main character in the main story arc.
