During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

I enjoyed everything about this book. The story is well written and the various characters are fully fleshed out and believable. I particularly enjoyed the way the narration was done with different actors for each character rather than one person attempting to do different voices. The story is gripping and suspenseful.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

I had high hopes for this book in the beginning. It starts out as a promising suspenseful mystery. But then as it dragged on and attempted to throw plot twists and faded more and more elements it lost credibility for me. By the end I was frustrated and angry at all of the characters and found the entire premise ridiculous. As far as the narrator, I thought she did a sufficient job, however her attempt to change her voice portray the various characters did not work for me. It made me uncomfortable and therefore unable to enjoy listening.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

This book grabbed my attention from the opening and held it throughout the entire story. Full of red herrings and twists and turns it is an exceptionally suspenseful mystery. The narration is skillfully done and allows one to be fully drawn in to the story. I highly enjoyed this book.

I very much enjoyed this book. Having always been interested in stories of life on the frontier in general and the Donner Party in particular I was happy to see this book on #Audible1.
I was not disappointed. I appreciate the way the story is laid out with a particular member as a central character while telling the story as a whole. Attention is paid detail and historical accuracy in the telling. I was able to be completely immersed in the tale, even knowing the outcome and many of the instances beforehand. I was so caught up in the storytelling I found myself completely engrossed. The narrator does a wonderful job and I had no trouble following along as he reads with clarity and emphasis where needed. Great book, Great listen!
