THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND MODERN CLASSIC FROM MASTER STORYTELLER STEPHEN KING

A NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW TOP TEN BOOK OF THE YEAR

WINNER OF THE LOS ANGELES TIMES BOOK PRIZE

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King—who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer—takes readers on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

It begins with Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, whose life is upended when his friend Al, who owns the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a particular day in 1958. And the dying Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession—to prevent the Kennedy assassination.

So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson, in the world of Ike and JFK and Elvis, of big American cars and sock hops and cigarette smoke everywhere and to the small town of Jodie, Texas, where Jake falls dangerously in love. Every turn leads eventually to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and to Dallas, where the past becomes heart-stoppingly suspenseful, and where history might not be history anymore. Time-travel has never been so believable. Or so terrifying.

I usually avoid books that scare me and that’s what I expect when I see Steven King is the author. My brother & niece assured me this book was not scary & was an amazing read.
Boy am I glad I took their advice! One of the best books I’ve experienced in years! Added to that the narrator was perfect, I highly recommend this book.

I simply loved this book. It is well written with both a captivating & intriguing plot line. The characters are brought to life certainly through the dialogue & narrative style, but credit too must be given to the actual narrator of this novel, Craig Wasson, who infuses this provocative tale with even more oxygen to transport it to waft in the nooks & cranny’s of your imagination not only as you listen, but long after you’ve listened to this masterful intrigue.

Captivating

I read this book on release and loved it. Seven years later, I enjoyed it even more listening to it. Narrator is very good...story brought tears to my eyes at the end...and the afterwards by Mr. King himself was a bonus. Don’t miss this!

Even better than the first time!

Not quite scifi, not quite fantasy but entertaining and not exactly what I thought. it was going to be. I liked the afterword by the author as well.

Entertaining time travel with a side pf romance

I thought the first and third acts were really engaging and exciting. i enjoyed the ending as well. But act 2 failed to grab me and I found it drawn out and boring. I think this is a result of the plot point and I don't think it could be avoided by King. He had to fill that part of it. Still enjoyed it though and the narration was good.

Pretty Decent
