Publisher's Summary

Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

my favorite narrator

the plotline was definitely very creepy but enjoyable. The narrator, as always, was fantastic. I very much enjoyed this book and recommend it

A surprisingly engaging story, fantastic narration

To avoid all spoilers, let me keep it simple. Mystery was an engaging one with a satisfactory ending, marred only a little by a few overused tropes that were still enjoyable overall. The characters were likable and memorable, and the author mostly handles the ensemble quite well in ensuring that every character has something to contribute to the narrative overall. Ray Porter does a phenomenal job keeping all of the character voices unique without being over the top. I recommend this to anybody looking for a sci-fi/horror mystery story.

Slow start but worth the listen

Book started slow but picked up quickly. I found the narrator did a very nice job, but i wasn't a fan of the accents or the way he spoke as females. Overall enjoyable.

Incredible! Front to back.

I’d give this book 10 stars if I could. Performance by the reader was also fantastic! This book made me miss the TV show “Fringe”
Love love love!

Literally couldn't stop listening

This book was not what I expected, in the best way possible. I am normally not into anything sci Fi, but this book was incredible. The reader made me feel like I was watching a movie in the theatre. I was so obsessed with this book I would go to my car and listen on all my breaks at work. amazing, and have now downloaded several others by the author.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Loved this book! Narration was great, voices for each character done very well. During a particularly climatic moment I was driving with my hands gripping the steering wheel hanging on to every word. Highly recommend!

Good one!

Loved this story and the performance. Great fun just before Halloween. Characters were nicely rounded and with just enough romance that I couldn’t help rooting for them all.

HP Lovecraft fan or not it's a joy ride.

Ray Porter embodies all the characters bringing them to stunning life. And Peter Clines is like Jim Butcher and Dean Koontz rolled into one. The story is intriguing, characters are rich, and you just don't want to stop listening. I'm getting the next book right now!
