They should pay us to listen.

It is likely some of these stories are excellent, but there really is no way to tell. The narrator has a very pleasant voice, but beyond that he is worse at pronunciation and pausing than anyone else I've ever heard. Don't the producers do any "quality aasurance"? Clearly not, but they need to start - SOON.

do not buy

narrator is terrible. You can't tell where one sentence begins or the next ends, its one run on sentence.

Decent for sleeping background stories.

The reader is plain out of his depth, he mispronounces four words out of twenty, and never gets it corrected. Also repeats himself if he gets lost while reading, and adds nothing to differentiate characters, which is okay but sub-par. His voice itself is neutral though, so it is pleasant enough to listen to these old familiar stories as a background noise while gaming or falling asleep. It's worth the few pennies to have a long playing non YouTube recording.

I'm volunteering, 'cause I can do better!

I've only gotten through the first nine stories by dint of effort and the ability to let my mind wander from time to time. Be assured nothing of importance was missed, as the stories are delivered in such a manner that meaning drops away in a flood of syllables.
Echoing other reviewers, it's easy to forget what you're listening to, as the narrator is unabashedly inept in pronunciation, phrasing, voicing and interest. Too bad, as his voice is actually quite pleasant in tone and timbre. It's like a Steinway being played by someone who has never had a lesson -- all the parts are there, but the results lack coherence, connection and life.

I may actually seek out the written form of this work, as I'd like to know what the stories were about. I might even take a crack at reading a few aloud... at 63 and a former smoker, my voice is no longer what it was, but it would STILL be better than what was heard.

Not as advertised

Only one story downloaded and it kept repeating the same lines twice. I enjoy short stories but this download had technical problems in downloading. At least I think that was the problem.

Readers Who Don't Read?

It's one thing for the blurb promoting the book to select from the 50 stories only the very few well known authors. Poe, Doyle, etc. That's marketing. The disappointment of course is so FEW of the 50 are by good writers, and so many by people I've never heard of with efforts ranging from "iffy" to terrible.

But to the narrators, so called. They appear to have read very little. Disastrous. I can't add much to the incisive reviews of this shoddy collection published in Amazon. (Outstandingly poor diction, syntax-timing, presence, acting, etc).

I'll just add that I gather the narrators are unfamiliar with a number of words they read. Why else would the mispronounce so many, as if they'd never seen them? I'm not referring only to foreign language phrases in some of the stories- in French, German, Portuguese, Latin. Really off the charts bad pronunciation. As one example only, the Portuguese "Senhores", transliterated by the reader, repeatedly, irritatingly comes off a "Se NORS". But it gets worse. many words in English are mispronounced. Again, this does not refer to differences between English (UK) and English (US). They're just wrong.

Best review was by the listener who said the collection is "not worth the 89 cents" he paid for it.

Could not finish the first story

The narration of the story was a complete disaster, monotone and an able to connect. No edits were done, sections are read and re-read. Absolutely no feeling went into creating this recording. It’s as if the reader picked up the book for the first time spat it out and sent it on.

Terrible

Unfortunately, this is a complete waste. I was looking forward to enjoying some random stories as "fun" entertainment. These are horribly read to the point you cannot tell one story from another. Awful. And there is no PDF file to give a list of titles. This one is so bad it really should be pulled from Audible. I got it on a super cheap sale so I can live with it. Still I would not recommend getting it at any price.
