Very moving and superb narration!

What made the experience of listening to 96 Hours the most enjoyable?

The story was a deeply woven intricate study of a harrowing time - personal relationships and the beauty of relationships. I loved it from beginning to end.

What about Romy Nordlinger’s performance did you like?

Sensitive and beautifully narrated she's also great with the accents. I really liked her for being so able to be immersed in the characters and their stories. Beautiful. I found myself very moved and wasn't sure if it was the book itself or the narration but it must be a mixture of both.

Excellent Listen

Woven around a very typical lesbian romance novel the author relates the story of the people of Gander, Newfoundland in the aftermath of 9/11. During the 24/7 coverage at the time one of the great stories that was either unknown or overlooked was the way that the natives of the small Canadian town opened their hearts, their homes and their town; to the planes diverted there when US air space was closed. To see more about those events and the 96 hours in question check out YouTube's "A yellow Ribbon, Gander."
The romance was the stock girl meets girl, they find a reluctant growing attraction, they fight it; then finally act on it. The good feelings are lost; they part, both are upset. Then by an act of fate they're brought back together, their hearts soar the music plays and they walk off into the sunset together. Ms. Beers is a good writer and despite the predictability of the plot you're drawn in.
I highly recommend this book if for no other reason than the background story about Gander, and I thank my daughter for introducing me to this author.

Thrown Together by 9/11

A lesbian romance set against the backdrop of the 9/11 attack on the twin towers? It sounds like an oxymoron but Georgia Beers knows what she’s doing.

I have never been so scared and on edge at the beginning of a of a book.

Over the course of the book, the characters, an uptight scientist, and a wandering free-spirit, are stuck in an airport in Newfoundland, Canada, grounded by the attacks on the Twin Towers. They're not allowed to even get their checked luggage, sleeping on cots, the whole airport like a refugee camp.

What else is there to do but fall in love?

Romy Nordlinger does a fantastic job of bringing across the moods of the characters, blithe one minute, stressed the next.

Good Book DESPITE the narrator.

I really enjoyed the story, I’m sure the wonderful things that the residents of Gander NL were accurate. I’d like to think so. Sad backstory, obviously but I cannot stress enough, read this book don’t listen. The narrator ruined it for me, sorry. She sounded like my grandmother and it’s hard to get into a lesbian romance novel told by what sounds like an 85 year old reader. She didn’t change her voice among the characters except when they were drunk, even then she sounded 89 years old. Ugh. Bad narrator = ruined book for me.
Great story though.

Good Story, Mediocre Narration

The story is good enough to warrant a read, but I felt the narration of the story left something to be desired. I think I have been spoiled by a couple really amazing narrators that I have heard lately (Abby Craden, Mia Chiaromonte) and perhaps my expectations are now too high! I just found the narrator's voice somewhat grating at times. Not a total deal breaker though... Personally, I liked Beers' other audiobook "Too Close To Touch" better for both the story and narration. Overall, I would rate this audiobook a 3.5, but since I can't do half stars, I am being generous and rounding up to 4 stars.

Don't miss this one

I'm so glad Georgia Beers submitted this to Audible Plus. I frankly would not have purchased it, or any of her books, tbh, if I hadn't found her through this catalogue. But this one has me sold. Unlike the two puppy love I listened to, she nailed the denoument in this one. This story was interesting, important, heartwarming, and well paced. There was one episode of poor behavior I found cringey, but I'm glad I stuck with it after that.

It was good.

If you already like the author it's a nice listen. Story wise it covers a heavy event obviously, though there's a limit to how much I can relate to it given my age. I have a lot of empathy, but I'm not completely sure this story wanted to give you more than flashes. It was kinda shorter than some other stories so I understand the limitations. This is more just how I see it.

OK book bad narration.

The story itself of meeting in Gander directly following attacks in 9/11 was interesting. I enjoyed Erica's development. She owned her flaws/behavior and changed. Although Abby seemed to change too she never seemed to take ownership of her flaws/behavior. Basically I don't feel like Abby ever really understood how careless she was. Plus even to the last seen of the book made Erica out to be rigid or closed off thinking she was going to react a certain way when in fact it has been her being clueless. If she didn't know how Erica would feel about it by that point she wasn't paying attention. Still being careless with Erica's feelings.
The narrator was not very good. at times I couldn't tell who was speaking and her voice didn't fit the characters.
This is just mho. I don't leave lots of reviews but the character of Abby really irritated me and the narration was not very good. I would recommend if you want to read this book actually read it and skip the audible version.

Really wanted to like it...

I wanted to like this book, but honestly the narrator made it unbearable to listen to. I gave it awhile hoping it would get better, but I just stopped it. I think I’ll buy the physical book.
