Publisher's Summary

“This suspenseful and witty first novel in a new series is a perfect match for narrator Lorelei King." (Booklist)

"Narrator Lorelei King works well with the subtly snarky style of author Darynda Jones...Listeners will look forward to the next installment of this new series, as some mysteries are solved, and others remain." (AudioFile Magazine)

New York Times best-selling author Darynda Jones is back with the first novel in the brand-new snarky, sassy, wickedly fun Sunshine Vicram series - A Bad Day for Sunshine!

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram finds her cup o’ joe more than half full when the small village of Del Sol, New Mexico, becomes the center of national attention for a kidnapper on the loose.

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt? Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff - thanks to her adorably meddlesome parents who nominated her - and she expects her biggest crime wave to involve an elderly flasher named Doug. But a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter’s new school, plus and a kidnapped prized rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old-flame, and a fiery-hot US Marshal.

With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger. Can Sunshine face the call of duty - and find the kidnapper who's terrorizing her beloved hometown - without falling head over high heels in love...or worse?

loved it! i can't wait for the next installment I hope it's not another year....but I'm willing to wait. Sun is a great character, she's funny she pissed me off but at the same time I understand what she is doing. anyway. love the character and I just NEED the next book..buy it, enjoy it and you'd better believe that even that sun isn't Charley, shes still a fantastic character. Quincey is hilariously adorable!!!

Lots of fun. I very much recommend it.

This series starts out strong with a fantastic performance by Lorelei King (when is she not wonderful, though) and a solid story. Peppered with the dad joke humor, it manages to be light while also addressing some more difficult topics.

In this book, we meet Sunshine, her daughter Aurora, Aurora's interest Cruz, Sunshine's BFF Quincey, and Sunshine's long-time crush Levi. There is a ton of supporting cast as well, though, so be prepared.

We start our journey on Sunshine's first day as sheriff and Aurora's first day at a new school. With lots of little side plots, we get a feeling for how hectic life is going to be for Sunshine. Sunshine left her small town home behind her years ago but now is dragged right back in. Aurora proves to be much more grown-up than most kids her age. Thrown into the middle of small town politics and all the "interesting" (read eccentric) characters that are associated with small town life, Sunshine and Aurora work together to solve a kidnapping, apprehend the perp and gently nudge various others into key positions to right the wrongs done recently as well as many years ago.

my only complaint is the demonstration with the kids in the high school where they literally turn their backs (you'll know as soon as you read it) this is totally unbelievable. Great imagery and gets the point across, but it would never happen that way, unfortunately.

over all, I love the story and have to recommend it.

Love this series!

Sunshine Vicram is a fantastic main character, and all of the supporting characters are awesome. I'm going crazy wondering who Sunshine's abductor was and what Levi had to do with it. I bought the second book before the end of this one.

I really enjoy books narrated by Lorelei King and this one is no exception.

Not What I Expected

This book didn't do it for me. It reminded me too much of the Charley Davidson series which I loved listening to from book 1 right to the end of the series. If there is a 2nd I might give it a go and see if it's better. Disappointed.
