Editorial Review

It’s a holiday classic for the ages, and you can now enjoy Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol like never before. Lovingly and beautifully narrated by iconic actor Hugh Grant, this audiobook will become a staple of your family’s Christmas Eve celebration.

The classic Christmas story follows miser Ebenezer Scrooge, an unpleasant man who dislikes everything, especially Christmas. One Christmas Eve, he is visited by the spirit of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, with a dire warning. Determined to make Scrooge see the errors of his ways, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come soon follow. One by one, the spirits show Scrooge how he has touched the world and the people around him. In the process, the miserly old man realizes his callous treatment of his underpaid clerk Bob Cratchit and how it has further jeopardized the precarious health of his youngest son, Tiny Tim. On Christmas morning, Ebenezer Scrooge awakens and becomes a more generous and loving man.

While Charles Dickens is the acclaimed author of Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities and other staples of English literature, A Christmas Carol is perhaps his most widely known and beloved work. A classic tale of life lessons and the magic of the Christmas spirit, A Christmas Carol is a wonderful book to enjoy as a family during the holidays. Impeccably read by Hugh Grant, the Audible Original A Christmas Carol audiobook makes it a treat to listen to this beloved tale with loved ones.

Perfectly unexpected and unexpectedly perfect

My son and I listened to this in the car for our long and boring drive along frozen Canadian snowscapes. I had no expectations of a Hugh Grant rendition of A Christmas Carol but it was just right. The pacing and clarity was perfect, he did different voices but not in an over-the-top way. It was simple, not an overproduced radio drama, and entertaining enough to be a perfect introduction to A Christmas Carol for my tween son, who loved it. I couldn't help but keep thinking of scenes from the 1951 Alistair Sim film, and that was a good thing. A joyous discovery, not a fragment of underdone potato. Thank you, Hugh Grant and production team.

Loved it! Brilliantly narrated.

Hugh Grant did justice to this wonderful story. This story was UNabridged (not sure why other reviewers said it was abridged. It's a short story that takes roughly 3 hours to narrated looking at other narrations of this story). Hugh provided perfect balance of humour and earnest acting to make this story come alive. It was not over the top or silly. I hope Hugh narrates more books in the future. His narration reminded me of Alistair Sim's 1951 movie. I definitely recommend to book to anyone and it will be one I'll listen to often. It was such a treat to listen to this after a rough year. Thank you!

honestly it is wonderful, but ...

If you want a more manic and enthused performance check out the version narrated by Tim Curry.

However, Hugh Grant does a marvellous job of Dickens prose. Enjoy!

Incredible narration by Hugh!

Hugh was so incredible in this performance. He literally sounded like 2 separate people: Scrooge and the narrator, Hugh Grant.
I was riveted.
