Publisher's Summary

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.

A Darkness More Than Night: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch crosses paths with FBI profiler Terry McCaleb in the most dangerous investigation of their lives.

Harry Bosch is up to his neck in a case that has transfixed all of celebrity-mad Los Angeles: a movie director is charged with murdering an actress during sex and then staging her death to make it look like a suicide. Bosch is both the arresting officer and the star witness in a trial that has brought the Hollywood media pack out in full-throated frenzy.

Meanwhile, Terry McCaleb is enjoying an idyllic retirement on Catalina Island when a visit from an old colleague brings his former world rushing back. It's a murder, the unreadable kind of murder he specialized in solving back in his FBI days. The investigation has stalled, and the sheriff's office is asking McCaleb to take a quick look at the murder book to see if he turns up something they've missed.

McCaleb's first reading of the crime scene leads him to look for a methodical killer with a taste for rituals and revenge. As his quick look accelerates into a full-sprint investigation, the two crimes - his murdered loner and Bosch's movie director - begin to overlap strangely. With one unsettling revelation after another, they merge, becoming one impossible, terrifying case, involving almost inconceivable calculation. McCaleb believes he has unmasked the most frightening killer ever to cross his sights. But his investigation tangles with Bosch's lines, and the two men find themselves at odds in the most dangerous investigation of their lives.

Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration so that listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Not what I was hoping for.

I'm listening to every novel in the order that Michael Connelly published them in, so I was excited to start another bosch novel, instead I got a Terry Mccaleb adventure. The story itself is decent enough but I didn't care for the narration, often finding it difficult to differentiate Bosch and Mccaleb. I found that the cheesy music and sound effects very repetitive and they got old very quickly.

Looking forward to starting the next title.

The narration of Bosch is terrible!!!!

The narrator should have listened to other Bosch stories, his narration of Hieronymus Bosch is terrible, sounds like a bad western movie.

Narrator was pretty good, same as the book.

I didn’t like the narrator’s voice for Bosch, but other than that, he was pretty good. Accents are definitely not his strong suit haha.

I like this book, but it certainly wasn’t my favorite of the Bosch books I’ve read so far.

Another great Read

Another great book by Michael Connelly. After a slow start I just couldn't stop listening. Enjoyed the story immensely, different than in the Bosch series on Prime, but I enjoyed both versions.

Horrible narration

Distractingly bad narrator. If the story wasn’t so good I would have stopped. Very inconsistent characterization of Bosch. I really didn’t care for the way he portrayed him

REALLY BAD IDEA

If anyone had asked me if I thought that adding background music and background sounds to an audio book would make a better listening experience I might have said that it was worth a try. Now that I have tried to listen to this book I find it so distracting, and annoying that I can't even finish this book. Wow! Please don't do that again. I now know to avoid Booktrack Editions. I never noticed it before, or knew what it meant.

I will take Harry Bosch however I can have him....

I love Michael Connelly and his main character Harry Bosch--and Mickey Haller (who is not in this book). The new guy was not much to me, but the story was great and it was Harry Bosch. And it was a nice long listen. The plot is good and the development was solid. It was not an easy to figure out in the first 2 pages of the book.

Fire the idiot

Whomever was responsible for the odious, distracting background sound effects in this production should be fired at once. Reading a book allows the READER to fill in the imagined mood and sound effects.
This is by far the worst of my Audible experiences. I have more than 1300 titles under my belt and fully appreciate the silence that belongs in any listening experience.
I want my money back. And will never tolerate such a sacrilege again!

Background noise

I cannot stand the background music and sound effects in this book. It's distracting from the story. I know you thought it would add something special, and in fact, if you would have asked me before I started, I would have agreed. Please don't do it anymore.

Never disappoints!

If you could sum up A Darkness More Than Night in three words, what would they be?

Exciting thriller with lots of twists and turns.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Darkness More Than Night?

I like when the detectives start to question their friendships, and whether the work they do is starting to bring them closer to the darkness than they ever imagined

What three words best describe Richard Davidson’s performance?

He does a good job but it is hard to listen to his voice for that amount of time. Sorry

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

?

story is ok but .............

the experience is totally ruined by the aggravating background music !
there should be some kind of warning when this is applied to the audible bool.

I hate the sound effects in this book

I generally have enjoyed listening to the Harry Bosch series this winter. I don’t mind changes in narrator but I highly object to complete changes in tone.

Call me Granny Crabby, but I can’t abide the pointless music, poor sound effects, background mumbles and clanking beer bottles that completely fill this particular book.

The previous 5 books had none of this garbage. All of a sudden there’s music that has no relationship to the scene, ruffling pages when someone is reading, water lapping on a boat and so on. It annoys me.

Other than those huge annoyances..really they can’t be ignored..the new narrator does a good job of portraying gruff Bosch and ancillary characters.

Connellys writing is tight, holds attention and the plot is a unique one in the series.

I sincerely hope the next book doesn’t have the background music but I’m hooked on the series with or without it.

worth reading...

Not my favorite, but worth reading. the story itself was good, but it seemed to run on a little. I love all of the established characters; however did not for the voice's interpretation of Harry Bocsh.
