Great book terrible reader
Love this series of books but cannot stand the voice of the reader of this book. I wish I could just read it myself.

Loved the book the first time with Ralph
All these books are so amazing, the characters so rich, and I loved it so much the first time I listened to it. My sister wanted to do a buddy read so I jumped on Audible, hit purchase and settled back for the comforting voice of Ralph. It was jarring when Adam's voice came on. I think he could do a fine job on something else and it's also because I associate Gamache with Ralph, but I just couldn't finish this. I didn't even make it 1/3 of the way through and I'm returning it. I can't recommend the Ganache series enough, and it seems for those who hadn't heard Ralph or Robert read then they might enjoy Adam.

A bit predictable
Still a compelling book that I found excuses to listen to. Can't quite get past the fact that Det. Gamache's accent started out Quebeçois, and became English halfway through. The narrator really screwed that up - of all the characters to get right, the main character is kind of important.

Hooked!
I can’t wait to hear more from inspector Gamache and the people of this village. And the narrator is perfect - I feel like I’m there!

French or english
I loved this book. I really like this series as I am from Montreal so I can relate to places the characters go. But, why does the narrator give Gamache sometimes a french accent and sometimes a British accent?? Pick one please!

My new favourite mystery series
I love spending time in Three Pines. A charming setting with fully realized, flawed yet lovable characters, complex villains, and a nuanced plot that keeps you guessing. The reader is excellent. He does convincing accents and gives each character a unique, well-fitting voice. He voices women like they are people rather than high pitched caricatures, which is not always the case with audiobooks. This book and the first in the series were a joy to listen to.

Surprising endings. You catch me every time.
I am enjoying the continuation of the characters as well as their growth. I am of French catholic descent. I wish the accents and foods were more from my backgrounds but we must be from different areas. Having said that, it’s closer than most books and audio books I have listened to. I am enjoying these well enough to have started at the beginning and will continue through the series. Thank you Penny.

Narrator
The narrator could not keep a consistent accent for Gamache! Very annoying - sometimes it was an English accent; mostly it was a French one.

Excellent
The only negative are the derogatory descriptions of the Anglo in the story. I know it's done to capture the culture of the region but wonder at the double standard as it would not have been tolarated If it was said of Frankophones in, say, Alberta.
