Publisher's Summary

Bloomsbury presents A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer, read by Melissa Bayern, Matt Reeves, Kate Handford and Davis Brooks.

In the sequel to New York Times best-selling A Curse so Dark and Lonely, Brigid Kemmerer returns to the world of Emberfall in a lush fantasy where friends become foes and love blooms in the darkest of places.

Find the heir, win the crown.

The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.

Win the crown, save the kingdom.

Grey may be the heir, but he doesn't want anyone to know his secret. On the run since he destroyed Lilith, he has no desire to challenge Rhen - until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother's violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?

The heart-pounding, compulsively listenable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

Two sisters, one heart

Absolutely a step up from book one. Intrigue and love woven together untill something snaps. Each character is much more realistic and grounded in their purpose. not just a story of lovers, but if the love between siblings. This element deepens the story and helps it shine.

Female performance ruins book

The female performance is unbearable. Weak and whiny, it completely ruins the book. So disappointing.

hated the performance

I only got about half way through. I found the email parts to be incredibly annoying and the Male parts to really just be passable. the story itself seemed to be ok and it might have been an ok book to read but listening to it was awful for me.

Voice

A great story but oh my goodness, the worst voice for Females. The voice is incredibly winey. Each time a female character speaks, I need to turn down the app or my car. It's amazing how a bad voice can ruin a book.

Not what I expected, but... maybe better?

That epilogue though 😵😵😵😵 🔪⚰️🧙‍♀️

I'll start off by saying, I was disappointed with the female lead in this book.
As much as I enjoyed her breaking through her barrier built on insecurity and self sacrifice to stand up.
I hated how weak she was through the whole story.
I wish there was more of a build up to her strength rather than a defining moment that feels like it comes from no where.
I feel that with the encouragement of Grey and the rebellion that she wars within her self that she would show more defiance.

I do enjoy Gray's evolution as a character.
Him choosing his country over his loyalty to people.
I did ship Harper and Gray, but I understand the turn of events.
I'm excited to see what happens 🤔😃

Disappointed in female protagonist

Missed Harper and Rhen in this one! Lia Mara was ok but awfully weak and whining- “I should have”.... Why have such weak heroines? Harper seems more multidimensional and her presence was missed.

I am hopeful

The first book was amazing ... this book is, well, lets just say I will be buying the 3rd book in the series because this book felt more like a novela then an actual sequal.

A lot of unanswered questions and I can see some major build up happening. I hope there will be some massive twists in the next book.

Loving this Series

A great second book in the Cursebreakers series. I can hardly wait to listen to the 3rd book, A Vow So Bold and Deadly.
I really enjoy the retelling of classic fairy-tales and this series didn't disappoint me so far.
