Publisher's Summary

The number-one New York Times best seller, now with a new preface!

In his audiobook, A Higher Loyalty, former FBI director James Comey shares his never-before-told experiences from some of the highest stakes situations of his career in the past two decades of American government, exploring what good, ethical leadership looks like and how it drives sound decisions. His journey provides an unprecedented entry into the corridors of power and a remarkable lesson in what makes an effective leader.

Mr. Comey served as director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama. He previously served as US attorney for the Southern District of New York and the US deputy attorney general in the administration of President George W. Bush. From prosecuting the mafia and Martha Stewart to helping change the Bush administration's policies on torture and electronic surveillance and overseeing the Hillary Clinton email investigation as well as ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, Comey has been involved in some of the most consequential cases and policies of recent history.

What the critics say

"Comey's conversational tone instantly connects with the listener, and hearing him deliver the book's highly charged contents in his own voice brings authenticity and immediacy to the presentation.... This greatly anticipated, revelatory memoir needs to be heard." (AudioFile)

"It was essential that Comey himself narrate this book, not only because his absence would have distracted listeners familiar with his voice but also because only the author could credibly convey the range of raw emotions emanating from the experiences he shares from this most eventful of lives." Amazing yet sorrowful

This was an amazing book that captured the true meaning of ethical and responsible leadership that Comey brought to the FBI. What matters now is the question of what the strongest country in the world will do with an unethical leader like Donald Trump? Your move America!

This book is excellent!

Comey's character shines through in his book. He comes off like a boy scout so keep that in mind. I am sure that there are skeletons in his closet, but that doesn't bother me.

His story is compelling and his characterization of Trump is almost terrifying.

We should all be afraid.

Well Done!

I can't say I enjoyed listening to this excellent book because it aroused so many emotions- considering the content. The author reads very well his own story. The book is well-written, characters are made human by brief descriptions. My only criticism is so many words given to Hilary Clinton's emails. Was it Comey's self-justification? Or did they deserve all those words? There are many description of good leadership which could help a lot of people in leadership. Comey leaves us hopeful in the end. Trump's administration? This too will pass.

More than I expected

I expected an interesting perspective in the current political climate of the US in begining this book. I was provided with so much more than that. The discussuon around ethical leadership was incredibly valuable.

The book also skirted politics for most of the first 2/3 which was nice.

Would listen again.

Enjoyed hearing the other side’s reasonings

This book fits right into my thoughts on so many levels. I like JC’s moral fibre and how he arrives at his decisions. The USA lost a valuable asset when Lumpy fired him. His analysis of people and what it takes to be a GOOD leader is spot on.

Great book…well worth your time!

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish and was wishing there was more! Although I am not an American citizen (I am Canadian), I spent 35+ years working in law enforcement and had the opportunity to work with a lot of great leaders and some very poor leaders. I really enjoyed hearing Mr Comey’s perspective on different leadership styles - at the highest levels of Government - and wished I had access to a book like this earlier in my career. I would highly recommend this book to anyone starting a career in law enforcement or any other leadership roles!

Finally, I especially enjoyed hearing “another side of the story” from someone who had a front seat at the table with Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump! As a Canadian citizen, we are also directly impacted by decisions made by the President of our closest neighbour, ally and biggest trading partner! Presidents who lack empathy, honesty, humility, decency and whose only goal is to put Americans first make for really poor World leaders who need to be exposed in books such as this one!
